CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell junior forward Claire DeBoer and freshman forward Kaitlyn Slagus were named the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week following their performances during the tenth week (Jan. 11-Jan.17) of the 2015-16 season. DeBoer and Slagus helped the Bison to a pair of victories, including a 17-point fourth quarter comeback on Wednesday, to remain perfect in League play and improve to 6-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Bucknell sweeps the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards for a third time this season, with Slagus being named Rookie of the Week each time.
LIDS TEAM SPORTS PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CLAIRE DEBOER, BUCKNELL Jr., 6-1, F, Grosse Pointe, Mich.
DeBoer earns her first weekly award this season after averaging 19 ppg, 9.5 rpg, and 1.5 apg. The junior helped the Bison to a pair of wins over Lehigh and Colgate and improve to 6-0 in League play. DeBoer helped Bucknell erase a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the Mountain Hawks, collecting 23 points and seven rebounds. She then followed that performance with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Raiders.
LIDS TEAM SPORTS PATRIOT LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
KAITLYN SLAGUS, BUCKNELL Fr., 6-2, F, Belle Vernon, Pa.
After the Bison came within reach against Lehigh in the fourth quarter, Slagus hit the game-tying three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to complete the 17-point comeback in Bucknell’s 80-77 overtime win over the Mountain Hawks. The freshman finished with 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the Wednesday’s thriller. Slagus then followed up with eight points and seven rebounds in the 71-51 win over Colgate.
HONORABLE MENTION
COLLEEN MARSHALL, LOYOLA MARYLAND Sr., 5-9, G, Gaithersburg, Md.
Marshall led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week with wins over Navy (51-38) and Boston University (63-54). The senior netted a game-high 24 points against the Mids and also collected five rebounds. She then followed up with 19 points against the Terriers while notching four assists and five steals. Marshall has now scored 10-plus points in five of the last six games.
KELSEY MINATO, ARMY WEST POINT Sr., 5-8, G, Huntington Beach, Calif.
Minato scored 18 points in a pair of contests last week, helping the Black Knights take over sole possession of second place in the Patriot League standings. The senior was a perfect 10-for-10 from the line against Colgate and also posted a season-high nine rebounds. Against American, Minato shot 5-of-10, including 8-of-10 from the line, and added seven rebounds.
CECILY CARL, AMERICAN Fr., 6-3, F, Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Carl has scored double figures in four-straight games for the Eagles, notching 14 and 11 points during this past week’s games. Against Boston University, the freshman tallied a career-high 14 points and shot 50 percent from the field (6-of-12) and also grabbed five rebounds, while tallying two assists and two blocks. Against the Black Knights, she was 50 percent once again in the field (4-of-8), which included a 2-of-3 mark from long range. Carl collected 10 points, six rebounds, and one block.
